Medicare's functional levels - "K levels" - for lower limb amputees are the mechanism by which virtually all insurers in the United States control access to particular types of prosthetic components. However, as technology has continued to evolve, many increasingly question whether the K levels do an effective job of matching the right products to the right kinds of patients.
