Medicare's functional levels - "K levels" - for lower limb amputees are the mechanism by which virtually all insurers in the United States control access to particular types of prosthetic components. However, as technology has continued to evolve, many increasingly question whether the K levels do an effective job of matching the right products to the right kinds of patients. In this podcast, we review the K levels, look at some historical utilization data from Medicare, and discuss what the problems with the K levels are and how they affect you.
